En esta feria podrá: hacer sus taxes gratis, abrir cuentas de ahorros igualados, y aprender sobre oportunidades de recursos económicos disponibles para toda su familia.
The purpose of this fair is to connect low-income Mission District residents to an array of asset-building resources from financial institutions, community-based non-profit organizations, and government agencies. We plan to offer financial education workshops, tax preparation consultations, and face-to-face contact with community service providers that can help families weather the economic crisis. A cadre of VITA tax preparation volunteers and asset-building professionals will be on hand to help individuals fill out their 2008 income taxes, to provide financial management advice, and to help individuals access public benefits and asset building programs. Workshops will be presented by partner organizations including; MEDA, ALAS, Bank on San Francisco, EARN and the Youth Credit Union Program. The event will be hosted in Spanish and information will be provided in both English and Spanish.
The economic recession is having a devastating toll on low-income families, particularly immigrant families who were already struggling to make ends meet. In certain pockets in the Mission, double-digit unemployment rates are a reality. And the looming San Francisco City and California state budget crises promise no relief for working families. Now is the time for nonprofits to come together and join resources and efforts to help families access financial assistance, program supports, and critical information on how to stretch their money during difficult times.
